Carbon/Silicon - Live in 2010

Thanx to ATH over at the Carbon/Silicon forum for this. Here’s a short but very very sweet 4 track set that MJ, TJ, Leo and guest Drummer Rusty Egan did @ The Islington Academy when Carbon/Silicon supported the Rich Kids last month. Here's another link if yer having troubles with the Bandongo one.

Fuck the(ir) recession with some CARBON/SILICON

I’ve spent most of the weekend smoking too many fags and blasting out Carbon/Silicon’s new release. The Carbon Bubble is a positive, uplifting total rock out, which finds M.J and T.J returning to their pre-punk roots and turning out twelve tracks of Prog/Glam Stomping 21st Century Punk Rawk, brilliant stuff, but this aint no retro shit; musically and lyrically this is as relevant as The Clash and BAD or Generation X and Sigue Sigue Sputnik were, and just as inspirational. There’s no excuse for anyone not giving this a listen, it’s available from the bands website as an MP.Free so all it’s gonna cost yer is a few minutes of your time while you wait for the tracks to download, As a bit of a bonus, and so you don’t leave here empty handed here’s a couple of early versions of two tracks from the album; Reach For The Sky and What’s Up Doc. Enjoy! The image on the right accompanies Shadow, my favourite track on the album; A 6 minute slow burner of an anthem, which juxtaposes The 18th Century English Radical Politician and Journalist John Wilkes with a world of the Facebook X-Factor generation. Smoking!

CARBON/SILICON - Live

Here's another C/Si MPFree for ya. Blatantly and unashamedly ripped off from their forum(originally posted by JOSE) It's a short 5 song set from the West London lads, recorded at the SXSW Industry fest in Austin Texas on 14/3/08, the home of really, really, really the blues. It's slightly sloppy in places, but that's great Rock'n'Roll for yer, unlike the crap interview at the beginning which is just embarrassing for the daft American lady asking 'the questions' anyway grab a piece of the action here! There's been a few problems with downloading this, so I've used the original link that I got it from, hopefully that should sort it.

Life Imitates Art Carbon/Silicon Stylee.

At a recent CARBON/SILICON gig on Feb 8th, the same week they released their 3rd single Why Do Men Fight? A spot of violence “erupted” when a punter who couldn’t get into the venue “started going insane” out side and “attacked” the door with a metal stand, and then set about bystanders “with his rage”. So in answer to Mick and Tony’s question, it would appear that not being able to see you guys can, in some people be a trigger to violence. Anyway, here for anyone who didn’t get a copy of the 7” single of Why Do Men Fight? is the b-side. A non-album and old, but now revamped Carbon classic; Be Good To Yourself. Hope I don’t encure any upset from Mick and Tony by posting and sharing this commercially available product with you, but hey it only had limited availability, and in their words; What The Fuck!

A POST!

It’s that time of year when everyone starts preparing lists of this and that Top 50’s etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. Well this is gonna be a list free zone, mostly on account of I just can’t be bothered to think what’s been good and bad this year, it’s all just been. Anyway as I’ve started typing I suppose I better finish what I was gonna say which is; For me the outstanding musical releases this year have come from those old kids on the new block CARBON/SILICON who in true punk rock tradition decided after a few years of Mpfree downloads via their web site, (just when every other band is catching on to this idea) to release their stuff in the more traditional manner. The News EP, The Magic Suitcase EP and The Last Post LP for me at least are like I said before THE outstanding releases of this year on so many levels, musically and lyrically they are superb and once again, but this time 30 years latter Mick Jones speaks to and for a generation in a mellow yet still angry manner. Brilliant stuff. While I’m at it might as well mention THE ENEMY who’s debut We Live and Die In These Towns was a call to arms for a new generation, and also THE DEAD 60’S who’s new album Time To Take Sides planned for early release next year is, thanks to the wonders of the internet a corker. Any way enough waffle here’s some tuneage.

Get with the C/Si program.

Momentum is gaining for CARBON/SILICON'S debut 'real recording' The News EP, as oppose to their 'virtual recordings' which were only available in MPFree format from their website, thought i'd post their last 2 albums which are no longer obtainable to download, they've been replaced by the excellent Crack Up Suite EP (link to site over to yer left and scroll down) CARBON/SILICON are Mick Jones and Tony James. long time friends. From London SS to The Clash and B.AD, from Generation X to Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Sisters Of Mercy, these guys have been there seen it and got the T-Shirt. C/Si sound nothing like any of 'em but a bit like all of them, it's the sound of a different generation of punks having fun and keeping the flag flying. After 30+ years these guys are sounding relevant and still have something to say. The News EP is gonna be out on 28th May for Digital Download and on June 4th an extended DD and 7" and 4 track CD all tracks have been mixed by Bill Price (who worked with The Clash) by all accounts they have been compressed into a more manageable listen. So download, buy and lets get the charts a bit fired up again. It's all in the timing 1977 / 2007. Anyway in the mean time have a listen to their recordings from 2006. Highly recommended, and just a click away.
