They could have been contenders #1: COLORYDE - The 1994 Demos
This is an occasional feature on a few bands who never made it any further than recording demos, when they really should have been signed up by record companies, rather than being consigned to the ’dustbin of musical history’ look at it as a spot of recycling or emptying the dustbin to find the gems buried there. First up it’s a band called COLORYDE, from the same stomping ground of Welwyn Garden City/Hatfield as S*M*A*S*H, a band they shared a few gigs with, and a similar style, the only difference being that Coloryde, despite a lot of trying never had their 15 minutes, which wasn’t only a shame, but totally criminal, especially considering around the time they were playing every record company was signing guitar bands with an ear for power/pop/punk tunes. Coloryde had the ear and the passion, but not the breaks, anyway if you fancy a blast of what you missed out on in 1994 because some record company exec had cloth ears and shit for brains, click here, and if you’re not too sure it’s worth yer while think; The Jam, The Clash and The Chords and it’ll give you an idea of what to expect.

I remember Coloryde...
They topped the bill the night we got the late Jeff Buckley down for a sunday night on his first British tour...
They borrowed my Union Jack flag for a backdrop and I never did get it back.
Moral: Never trust a 'Mod'.
Good little band tho'.
As ever I am the last to realise what a great fucking band these were ...
Oh well, fuck it!
Let's wait for the lost Shit Scared and the Cringing Wankers demos ....
