THE FOLK DEVILS - Goodnight Irony (vinyl-rip)

Today’s musical offering at the alter of rawk’n’roll comes from the swamp lands of West London; Goodnight Irony is basically the ‘Greatest Hits’ (if they’d had any) of the criminally ignored Folk Devils. It is a collection of wired and wild, spikey and fiery amphetamine laced rock’n’roll. From their debut single Hank Turns Blue to a track from their last Peel Session It Drags On, it’s great stuff. The bands front man Ian Lowery started out as the original singer The Wall, before going on to release records with Agent Orange and Ski Patrol, before forming The Folk Devils, who incidentally trivia fans were managed by Ray Ganges, the rather mixed up would be roadie in The Clash’s Rude Boy film. After The Folk Devils split Ian went on to release records under the name of The Ian Lowery Group and King Blank, before his sad death in the 1990’s. Saw ‘em live once in Stevenage, when they played their hearts out to a half empty hall. Great stuff, get Goodnight Irony here! and if you wanna check out King Blank take a trip here where you can get their The Real Dirt album, just tell ’em I sent you. NO!!!! BOLLOCKS, Just checked the blog where King Blank is posted and FUCK me if they aint just posted Goodnight Irony. SOD IT, shall I not post it now? I dunno....nah FUCK it, I 've just spent time converting, typing and uploading for this post, so here ya go, anyway you can't have too much of a good thing.

THE FOLK DEVILS - Vinyl Rip Re-Post
I'm gonna be lazy with this re-post, and re-print some of what I wrote in the original post.

NOT SO GREAT BRITAIN ! A response to the recent UNICEF Report on Childrens well being across 21 Industrialised Nations.

Was originally gonna call this post Britain's Fucked and I Blame Esther Ranson, then go on about how organisations such as Child Line have helped give children too much power, then I thought that I don't advocate corporal punishment as a solution, and parents often abuse their power. The same can also be said of police and teachers. But I don't think that it's right to remove their power. It's all about a balance, and at this moment Britain is an unbalanced nation where parents are scared to say no, and kids grow up with no discipline. You could trace it back to the militant left in the 60's with their ideas of Liberation. I don't advocate that women should stay at home and be perfect housewives, but I do believe it is the mums role along with dad to bring up the children. Not a government funded day nursery's. I blame Margaret Thatcher for that; she encouraged the breakdown of the family, both parents working to pay the mortgage. No time for the kids, motivated by material wealth. Our children aren't deprived of PlayStations, Big Macs or Nike trainers, they are deprived of morals, values, faith and respect; the foundations of every society. Without these you are heading for the worst sort of anarchy. Young kids killing themselves with drugs, guns and underage sex. Is this what John Sinclair's White Panther Party and the MC5 meant when they wanted 'Dope, Guns and Fucking in the Streets'? I blame the media for filling kids heads with images of perfection, popstars, footballers and models. They have also demonised the young, more folk devils and moral panics. A culture of fear has been created, any young person with a hood is obviously up to no good. The ASBO generation, now that's no solution. Kids wear 'em as badges of honour and the authorities don't actually enforce them. Single mums are scapegoats, but children need positive male role models, there are so many things to proportion blame to, it's not just one thing, it's everything and in a society where our Prime Minister takes no responsibility for his actions it's no wonder no one else does and just blames someone or something else. The three main political parties and people in general need to do something and soon, because if we don't someone else will, after all the kids are our future. The 'Griffin Youth' anyone ?

THE SCREAMING BLUE MESSIAHS - Smash The Market Place (12" vinyl rip)

The Screaming Blue Messiahs were a ferocious band, with the imposing figure of Bill Carter; suited and booted, bald head dripping sweat, and spitting out the words with venom and passion, had the pleasure of seeing ’em live a couple of times at The Hope and Anchor and The Marquee, now I bring you the pleasure of this 12” single that’ll blow the dust of your day away. Smash The Market Place is a scathing attack on Thatcher’s yuppie Britain. Released in 1986 and taken from their brilliant Gun Shy album, it rocks like The Folk Devils and The Redskins rock, as does the b-side Just For Fun. Also included is a non album track The Power Glide, which if yer familiar with The Messiahs you’ll recognise as being a Stars on 45 mega mix style instrumental version of several of their top tunes. If all you know about The Messiahs is their only hit I Wanna Be A Flintstone, forget that and get this, cos some records are vital and some aren’t. This is! What ya waiting for….SMASH THE MARKET PLACE!

Public Service Announcement #2
Right then, looks like my network
connection problem has been sorted, the General Malaise seems to be
passing, but the hard drive crash is still a problem, I'm gonna get
someone to have a look at it, and there may be a chance that not all
is lost. Some stuff was backed up, but not everything, so requests
for reposts is a bit of a lucky dip, I'm hoping to get the S*M*A*S*H
demos and THE FOLK DEVILS sorted this week, and hopefully the JOHNNY
THUNDERS live in Stevenage, but...... work, family etc and doing some
new posts doesn't leave much time left. The time bank is about as
healthy as the money bank .

UN-PUBLISHED/POSTED/FINISHED/EDITED WRITINGS AND REVIEWS FROM 2016.
Prescription drugs fuck you up! Stress
and anxiety fucks you up! Yoga and whale music ain’t my thing.
Count to 10 deep breaths....BANG! That don't work I just wanna
explode. Counselling / therapy maybe, but from my experiences those
doing the listening are just as fucked up as those doing the talking,
except their making a living out of our feelings. Prescription
drugs control the anger/energy, reduce the stress and anxiety, but
suppress feelings, creativity and thinking. Just like they want the
people to be. Well not this one anymore. It's been a struggle but
I'm busting through and getting the writing going. Thinking hasn't
been the problem....Too much? Probably! But there's been a lot to
think about on the macro level; Brexit, Trump, Syria etc, and on a
micro level, well....that's my war, in my head! The struggles on
both levels continue and I will keep on keeping on addressing them in
my own time with my own mind.
Thank goodness for Rock'nRoll to
continue to shine a light in dark times. 'cos this year's seen some
fucking good shit: THE RUTS – This Music Must Destroy / UK SUBS –
Ziezo / SLAUGHTER AND THE DOGS – Vicious / THE WITCHDOKTORS –
Voodoo Eye / THE FOLK DEVILS – Beautiful Monsters /BLACK BOMBERS –
Black Bombers / REACTION – Accelerator / BAD BREEDING – Bad
Breeding / ENEMIES OF PROMISE / CONTINENTAL LIASONS / THE DeRELLAS /
Easy Actions continuing NIKKI SUDDEN
collections, has seen a lovely 3 CD Box Set of Treasure Island hit
the market earlier this or last year, complimented by the release of
a blistering live set from Berlin’s Quasimodo Club
Some I reviewed and some I didn't, and I've probably forgotten to mention a few more, but.... Hey, Ho!
Had a few technical difficulties not
just in my mind but also in the Laptop's, which has days were it's
not responding; more memory needed, attacked by viruses and generally
fucked. yeah know that feeling sometimes....now where was I?
Yeah....so uploading music is/has been a bit of an issue/hassle,
hoping to get this resolved.
Hold on tight cos I reckon 2017 is
gonna be a bumpy ride Just gotta stay strong and keep on keepin' On!

THE NOVEMBER FIVE - If You're Satisfied You Are Dead (A Review)
If You're Satisfied You Are Dead is the
debut album by London based band The November Five. It's an album
that reflects the ever present paranoia, distrust and anger in post
millennium Britain. The eleven tracks are tense and terse, vicious
and violent, frantic and furious. It's a compelling, hypnotic
collection of catchy and anthemic songs that suck you in and spit you
out feeling alive yet wanting more. Great intelligent and emotional
lyrics, with guitars that chop and chime, keyboards that swirl and a
rhythm section that thumps, the vocals are reminiscent of 'the Two
Ians' (Curtis from Joy Division and McCulloch from Echo and The
Bunnymen) in fact it sounds like there's a whole post-punk 80's vibe
going on. I Demand is a call to arms that sounds like Joy Division
on angel dust, Good Cop Bad Cop sounds like a street fight between
The Godfathers and Primal Scream. While Control sounds like Echo And
The Bunnymen trading tunes with The Folk Devils. There are other
bits that sound like long lost 90's bands Humanzi and Whipping Boy.
The November Five have one boot in the past and another in the
present, which makes it kickin' stuff! Simple no frills attached
Rock'n'Roll that feeds the emotions. Beautiful, brilliant, exciting
and life affirming stuff! Details of how to get a copy are on their facebook page.
