So the Embryo and Abortion Bills have gone through the House Of Commons. Once again politicians have ignored public opinion by backing the creation, but not preservation of life. In the coming weeks we need to keep our eyes and ears open, because there’s another bill due to go before parliament; The Communications Bill, this one aint about creation and preservation of lives, it’s about our lives right here, right now. If the bill is passed, it will allow the government to store even more personal data such as phone records and e-mails on data bases, that could then be shared with an increased number of agencies. So in one breath politicians ignore public opinion, yet in the next they want to store as much information as they can about us. Aaahh! the great smell of democracy. “What’s the problem?” some say, if you’ve nothing to hide, then you’ve nothing to fear, well.. I happen to fear for the future of our children’s freedoms.

that's really fucking scary - keeping track of emails? Have they nothing better to spend the taxpayers money on? Ridiculous! I thought my friend taking political science was starting to sound like a conspiracy theorist - she might be right! She won't even post on blogs! Oh fuck.....

The Communications bill will be an interesting one.

As I see it all this is about trying to keep a lid on a society that’s fractured and that will inevitably implode in years to come. Nothing to do with terrorism. (But then if you express those views you’re invariably dismissed as a nutty conspiracy theorist).

The old ‘If you’ve got nothing to hide….’ argument is played out. I’m law abiding, but there’s loads I’ve got to hide. My bank details for starters, and call me old fashioned, but my DNA is kinda precious to me as well!!

In terms of CCTV we (The UK) are one of the most ‘Watched’ county’s on earth with something like one camera for every fourteen people.
Yet or town centres/cities are full of people kicking the living shit out of each other, stabbing and shooting each other every week. Actually it’s almost every day these days. So that worked then didn’t it? Great deterrent that was.

As Jim Morrison once said -

’I don’t know what’s gonna happen man, but I just wanna get my kicks before the whole shit house goes up in flames. All right!’.

Studying politics/sociology makes you see the whole world differently, everything isn't and doesn't have to be seen as it is, taking both of 'em was an education katwoman, looks like I'm not alone. CCTV yes indeed, worked as well as crime prevention for young people did; 10 years of projects/programs and untold funding, and no positive results, cheers anon, you know it makes sense!
