THE WATERBOYS - Live @ Glastonbury 1986

This recording of The Waterboys legendary appearance at The Glastonbury Festival in 1986 is complete and uncut. A great bootleg, much loved and played by myself over the years. Mike Scott is on fine form and the band play a balanced set; from the rocky to the folky. The recording captures the vibe of people sitting in a field listening to a great band, in a time before you had to register for tickets to watch bands as homogenised as the milk from Michael Eavis’s cows. Due to the length of the recording I’ve had to split it into two parts: SIDE 1 and SIDE 2, just like the tape. Enjoy!

THE WATERBOYS - The Big Music (12" vinyl-rip)

The Big Music, yes indeed this is a big stadium of a song, but not as big as one of the b-sides of this 12” Bury My Heart is a beautiful tale from the eyes of a Native American, of mans brutality to fellow man in the name of religion, capitalism and civilisation, musically it’s a cross between Bob Dylan and Johnny Thunders, brilliant stuff. The Native American theme continues with the final track The Earth Only Endures, which is a traditional Sioux death song, given the Mike Scott treatment. If you wanna hear this Big Music, you know what to do.

A SUNDAY SELECTION OF SEVEN SCRATCHY 7" VINYL SINGLES + B-Sides FOR YER EARS.

THE BATFISH BOYS
with Justine. Their singer Simon D used to be in ‘Goth Gods’ The March Violets. Goth this aint, think sleazy grubby rock’n’roll in the same vayne as Zodiac Mindwarp. For the second of the seven I give you THE WATERBOYS
This debut single A Girl Called Johnny by Mike Scott’s new band after Another Pretty Face and Funhouse, may or may not be about Johnny Thunders and/or Patti Smith (a couple of his heroes) a great single featuring some beautiful sax blowing. Next up it's TWINK ex Social Deviant and Pink Fairie with a blast of like the title Psychedelic Punkaroo suggests Psychedelic/Punk. You wouldn’t expect anything less of the fella would ya? Following swiftly on is The Stand by THE ALARM Often dismissed as “Clash copyists” This is a great single, with a great b-side, their finest moment? Now it' time to Git Down (Shake Your Thang) with GAYE BYKERS ON ACID Brilliant name! Brilliant single! A drug addled Punk/Metal/Experimental/Dance car crash of a record. Next on the agenda we have TENPOLE TUDOR The irrepressible Eddie Tenpoles first outing since his work with the Sex Pistols. This is a far better affair. Pub Rock, Punk Rock, like it says on the tin; Real Fun. Finally but by no means least it's the CUDDLY TOYS with It's A Shame. These Glam Romantic chaps are no strangers to this blog, so not much more to say about 'em really.

TOTALLY (NOT SO) RANDOM MUSIC POSTING #3

Today’s offering comes from ANOTHER PRETTY FACE, It’s a 2 Track 7” single from early 1980. It’s a corker! Described by Gary Bushel in a review in Sounds (Back in the day of 4 music weekly’s; NME, Melody Maker, Record Mirror and Sounds) as a cross between The Clash and Bruce Springsteen, he aint wrong there. Whatever Happened to the West is a guitar driven punk/pop attack of the West’s values, on the other hand Goodbye 1970’s is a laid back and more piano/saxophone cynical look back as the 70’s turned into the 80’s, a beautiful lament. Mike Scott the singer and guitarist later went on to find success with The Waterboys. Listening to this 20+ years later. ….Time moves on, but nothing changes, just gets worse. Do yerselfs a favour and check out this. A call to arms! captured on this vinyl rip, the crackles just add to its importance, and to top it all off the cover art is great. Get it here
