THE BARRACUDAS - Live @ The West Side Club, Lyon, France in 1983

The 60's may have been Dead in yesterdays musical post, but today they are certainly alive and kicking, with The Barracudas and their 60's inspired/influenced Power Pop Garage Punk.
This was recorded in early 1983, the surf boards had been left  in the garage, and the bands line up had now been bolstered by the addition of former Flamin' Groovies guitarist Chris Wilson. The 'Cudas are on fine form in front of a lively audience and deliver a righteous and riotous rock'n'roll racket with more energy and enthusiasm than you could shake a twelve string Rickenbacker guitar at. This is one of those recordings that captures the wild and dangerous essence of a Rock'n'Roll show. Check it out here!

THE JEREMY GLUCK BAND - Live

This is a real and rare treat for all you good folks, some of you may not initially think so, but believe me IT IS! Erstwhile former front man of surf garage punks The Barracudas, and main driving force behind the I Know Buffalo Bill collaboration with Nikki Sudden, Epic Soundtracks, Roland S Howard and Jeffrey Lee Pierce, it’s JEREMY GLUCK and his BAND, recorded live in June 2008, and what a glorious rough and raw row it is, from a man old enough not to know better. ‘History never sounded so young’ This is wild, feral, passionate and loud. Unpredictable and inspired; as rock’n’roll should be! On this recording Jeremy re-works some Nikki Sudden numbers Road Of Broken Dreams, Silver Street a couple from I Knew Buffalo Bill; Looking For A Place To Fall and Gallery Warf, there’s also a John Fogerty number and a truly awesome jam of Suicides Cheree, to wrap it all up. This posting comes with the blessing from the man himself, who has to admit that his new band rock. If you’re aware of his work you wont give it a second thought before hitting the click button, if yer not, become aware, after all what have you got to lose? 93.1 MB’s of hard drive space, before you burn it to CD! Go on, you know it makes sense to give it a click!

IT'S THE BA, BA, RA, RA, CU, CU, DA, DA, S

Aint gonna bore ya with too much history....... Jeremy Gluck moved from Canada to London when punk rock hit the streets, met Robin Willis who was in The Unwanted, when they split that's basically when The Barracudas were born, they marketed themselves as a 'surf punk band', at the height of punk Gluck could be seen on the underground carrying a surf board. The 'surf' angle got them signed to EMI who released their debut album Drop Out With The Barracudas, which spawned their only hit, Summer Fun. The single wasn't a true representation of the band and screams novelty record. By the time the album was released the band had gone in a far more garagey direction, much to EMI's disgust. Band and label parted company. I covered the rest of their history in a previous post, so that's yer lot. All that's left to say is that these 2 performances were recorded a week apart in March 1981, when I think they were supporting The Stray Cats on tour. Identical sets, but with the inclusion of Codine and I Wish It Could Be 1965 Again at the Lyceum. This is raw rock'n'roll from self-confessed outsiders. I couldn't decide which one to post, cos they both have their merits. On the Leicester one there's some interesting banter between band and audience and a few problems with the monitors, and like I said the London ones got a couple of extra songs. The choice is yours. Interestingly Summer Fun doesn't appear on either of them.

TIME FOR SOME ROCK'N'ROLL! wiv THE BARRACUDAS - The Barracudas (2005)

The Barracudas hit the streets, or the beach underneath the pavements in 1980, providing a welcome change to listening to Crass, The Clash etc. Alright their only hit 'Summer Fun' was a bit novelty, but the album it was taken from Drop Out With The Barracudas was ace. Jeremy Gluck and Robin Willis had both been floating about during the punk days, but took a different form of self expression with their 'surf and destroy' sound. Dropped by their record company, the band released records on a variety of smaller labels including Flicknife in Britain and Closer in France. Their sound had evolved into a more garagey clatter akin to The Flamin' Groovies, Chris Wilson from the band had joined The Barracudas. Saw them a couple of times in 1984, they were a great live act. Then they disappeared into the pit of cult status and forgotten great bands. Jeremy Gluck released a album with Nikki Sudden, but that was about it, until 2005 when this self titled album was released, only stumbled upon it on some music download site last week. Haven't stopped playing it since. It rocks! If yer into Thunders, The Ramones, Nikki Sudden etc this is a must, if not give it a go, there will be at least one track you like, and it aint gonna cost you. It's just a click away: http://s19.quicksharing.com/v/8333622/THE_BARRACUDAS_The_Barracudas.rar.html
